"Polio took away my legs, but it never affected my hands," says Perlman, who, through extraordinary talent and relentless effort, has become one of the most admired violin masters of our generation. Born in Israel in 1945, he contracted polio at the age of four, yet began learning the violin. In 1958, he immigrated to the United States to receive musical training at Juilliard School in New York. At nineteen, Perlman won the prestigious Leventritt Competition, launching his illustrious career. He has performed with major orchestras and at music festivals worldwide. In 1987, he joined Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and in 1990, he performed in Moscow and Leningrad at the invitation of the former Soviet Union. Over the decades, Perlman has performed and recorded nearly all the classical violin repertoire, earning numerous awards. In addition, he has actively explored a broad range of musical genres, including jazz, world music, and film scores, showcasing his ability to captivate audiences with his beautiful violin sound. In recent years, he has toured major cities around the world with Bruno Canino and Samuel Sanders and frequently performed with leading orchestras globally. Perlman's greatness is multifaceted: his impeccable interpretations, diverse repertoire, and charming personality. He has won fifteen Grammy Awards and a Lifetime Achievement Award, and in 2015, he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in United States. Today, Perlman's concerts and recordings continue to be cherished by music lovers worldwide. In recent years, Perlman has devoted more time to teaching and conducting. He offers masterclasses both in-person and online, and he has also founded a summer music camp to nurture young musicians.
